ICT

Information & Communications Technology

it connects our world

it's what we do

Information Technology (IT) used to be the computers, networking and software that supported the business from the back office.  Today, TV, Phones, Security Systems, Video and Sound systems, Thermostats, Appliances, Doorbells, etc., etc... now all connect to the same system that was once only for computers.  The only difference between a surveillance camera and a desktop computer is the device itself.  They now use the same connectors, same cable and fiber, same Wi-Fi, same everything.  One network; wired or wireless, for all technologies. DCS Technology Design specializes in knowing how all Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) can be supported on common networks, within a building, or across the world.

Information Technology (IT) has become a very broad category for technology today.  IT is traditionally known as the computers and back-office networking and software that supported the business.  Somewhere along the way, telephones migrated into that realm.  But today, Surveillance Cameras, Access Control, Digital Signage, AV systems, Thermostats, IoT, TV distribution, DAS, etc., etc... can all connect through the same network that was once only for computers.  Today, the only difference between a surveillance camera and a desktop computer is the devices themselves.  It is the same connectors, same cable and fiber, same wireless access points, same network technologies in the background.  A common physical layer platform; wired or wireless, for all technologies. This is what we call Information and Communications Technology, or ICT.

Certainly, there are unique requirements with some of the technologies, but if all technologies are considered appropriately, a building (or community’s) backbone network can be a single unified platform, supporting all technology functions.  There is no need to plan and build 6, 7 or 10 different technology systems into a facility, campus or community, all individual with separate maintenance and operational requirements. A well-planned ICT program can support everything, and DCS Technology Design has made it their mission to be a leader in ICT planning for all technologies.
